Change Major or Acquire Minor in the Lurie College of Education

Note: Students cannot submit a change of major request during their first semester at SJSU. 


Change of Major into Child and Adolescent Development

For students with fewer than 90 units

Submit the online Change of Major form. Anticipate an e-mail confirmation within 2-5 business days regarding the status of the request.

For students with more than 90 units

Please schedule an appointment to meet with a ChAD Program Coordinator who will review the request, plan a curricular roadmap, and provide instructions for submitting a Change of Major request. 


Declare Minor for Child and Adolescent Development

For students with fewer than 90 units:

Please submit this online Change of Minor form. Anticipate an email confirmation within 2-5 business days regarding the status of the request. 

For students with more than 90 units:

Please schedule an appointment to meet with a ChAD Program Coordinator who will review the request, plan a curriculum roadmap, and provide instructions for submitting a Change of Minor request.


Minor in Special Education

In order to earn a minor in Special Education (Inclusive or Early Childhood), or Deaf Education, you must apply to declare the minor. Review the information in the Special Education website and in the catalog to ensure you are eligible for one of the minors offered through the Department of Special Education. After reviewing your eligibility please complete the application form below. 

Minor Application due dates:

Minor applications will be accepted from the beginning of the semester until the due date. Minor applications will be processed 4-6 weeks after submission. You will be notified when your minor application is complete. No applications will be processed during the summer. Change of Major into Communicative Disorders & Sciences

For students with fewer than 60 units:

  • Changes of major are processed 2x per year (January and August).
  • Students must have at least one semester of SJSU coursework completed and graded with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
  • The following GE courses are recommended for the major and REQUIRED to apply to the graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Three of the five courses below must be completed before a change of major will be processed, including a minimum of one of the sciences courses below (B1, B2/B3)
    • BIOL 21, BIOL 30, BIOL 65, BIOL 66 (area B2/B3)
    • CHAD 70, PH 15 (area E)
    • PHYS 1,PHYS 2A, CHEM1A or CHEM30A (area B1)
    • PSYC 1 or PSYC 30 (area D1)
    • STAT 95 (or CHAD 80, PH 67, or SOC 15)

For students with more than 60 units: Meet with Professor McCollum, the Undergraduate Advisor, to get the required forms
